The Wild Life Protection Society established the Turtle Hatchery in 1981 as a prominent turtle breeding place. Huge tanks of young turtle hatchlings may be seen by visitors. Many Portuguese, Dutch, and British-influenced colonial constructions coexist with structures erected in Buddhist, Hindu, Islamic, Indian, and modern architectural styles.
