Lakshmana crowned Vibhishana in Kelaniya because Rama had to return to India to finish his 14-year self-exile in order to honour his father, King Dasarath of Ayodhya. As a result, Kelaniya Buddhist Temple is a significant stop on the Ramayana tour of Sri Lanka. Stop at the Panchamuga Anjaneyar shrine, a Sri Lankan shrine devoted to Anjaneyar, on the route.
